The Gregorius is the first Trappist beer brewed in Austria. A dark double malt beer brewed by the monks of Engelszell Abbey in Upper Austria.
This Belgian Dark Strong Ale style beer is brewed with only Austrian hops and local organic honey and is dedicated to the first abbot of the young Engelszell monastery: Gregorius Eisvogel.
It has a classic monk's tunic" colour, i.e. dark with amber highlights and a cream-coloured foam. It is sweet and soft on the palate, with hints of dried fruit, liqueur wine and caramel.
